On September 9th, the Columbus Chapter in cooperation with the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation will present a discussion on the new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, in the context of nuclear threat reduction. Model United Nations Simulation
On September 11th, students will step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization's agenda. Students make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts, and navigate the conference rules of procedure - all in the interest of mobilizing international cooperation to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world. Registration begins at 9:00AM, and there is no admission fee. The event will be held at the Ohio Union on the Ohio State University campus, 1739 N. High Street, in Great Hall #1. This similation is designed to provide teacher training, practice to participating students and interns, and provide a general overview of how the program runs. A World of Wine
UNACOL is proud to partner with Columbus' own Vino 100 on a global wine tasting event. The event will be held on Thursday, September 16th, from 6:30-10:00PM at Vino 100's Short North location, 789 N. High St. Tickets are $20.00 for members and advance registrations, and $25.00 for non-members and at the door. The International Day of Peace, observed each year on 21 September, is a global call for ceasefire and non-violence. This year, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is calling on young people around the world to take a stand for peace under the theme, Youth for Peace and Development. We will be joining local organizations in celebrating this day and ask you to join us. A movie will be shown by program partner ImaniWorks with dialogue and small march to follow. Food and Drinks will be provided.
